Marcel San Pedro, MS, is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern with the state of Florida. He is graduate of Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Marcel comes to the practice of psychotherapy and counseling after a successful career in the Media industry. He has 20 years of experience working in photojournalism, commercial production, as well as music video/ feature film work. Marcel has been previously employed with WPLG, a South Florida ABC news organization, for over 13 years. He has covered both local as well as national stories and events.
As Marcel transitioned into his new stage of professional services, he carried a number of qualities and experiences from his work. His first hand exposure to diverse cultures, individuals from wide ranges of socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as some of the most unique examples of the human condition, have all contributed to Marcel’s ability to connect with, and relate to a multitude of people and situations. Marcel has a unique sense of compassion which stems from capturing and telling stories of hope and tragedy on a daily basis.
Psychotherapy – Counseling Experience
Most recently, Marcel has been working closely with adults struggling with substance use and dual diagnosis disorders in an intensive therapeutic setting – Comfort Recovery – which provides PHP, IOP, and OP levels of care. A majority of his client population have included young adults experiencing opioid use issues, in which he has served as a primary therapist as well as group therapy facilitator. Marcel also completed a practicum and internship with Larkin Community Hospital, where he worked in the outpatient behavioral health program which provides multiple levels of care to individuals with severe chronic mental illness, substance use disorders, and mood disorders.
Marcel’s primary interests and focus therapeutically include relationships, family, and co dependency issues. His approach includes a humanistic sense of compassion blended with a psycho dynamically oriented view of systems and interpersonal interactions. Marcel believes in a holistic attempt to treating individuals, couples, and families.
