Can I learn to control my drinking?

October 13, 2012 By Charlene Lewis

If you are an alcoholic, you will not likely learn to control your drinking. Once the line has been crossed into alcoholism, an alcoholic may however become adamant about finding a way to manage their drinking. This is alcoholic thinking. There is a saying that “once a pickle, never again a cucumber”. This doesn’t mean that you may not be able to have just 2 or 3 drinks one night; it means that you can’t predict with 100% certainty which night you will be able to do this and which nights you will get utterly and hopelessly inebriated. Remember, if you are at a point that you are trying to control the drinking or using, there is most likely a problem. People who don’t have an issue with drugs or alcohol are not trying to control their intake.
